The first Sharia court in Britain was established in 1982, whose number has now increased to 85. Their religious influence is very strong. Due to the increasing number of these courts, it is being claimed that Britain is becoming the western capital of Sharia law. According to The Times, the National Secular Society has expressed concern over this parallel legal system.

These courts give decisions on matters ranging from marriage to family matters. According to media reports, these courts also promote anti-women ideas like Mutah i.e. pleasure marriage or pleasure marriage.

The Islamic Sharia Council of Britain and Northern Ireland is based in Leyton, east London. It is a registered charity that provides services on matters like Nikah, Talaq and Khula.

There is also a mobile app regarding Sharia law, through which Muslims living in England and Wales can make Islamic laws for their area. Through this, men can also choose how many wives they will have, which can range from 1 to 4. This mobile app also has the approval of Sharia court.

These Sharia courts in Britain are made up of panels of Islamic experts, most of whom are men.

These courts weaken the rights of women and children

According to media reports, about 1 lakh Islamic marriages have taken place in Britain, which have not been registered by the civil authority. Stephen Evans, chief executive of the National Secular Society, has issued a warning against such courts.

Evans said- These courts weaken the principle of one law for all. This weakens the rights of women and children.

Evans further said that we must remember that Sharia courts exist only because Muslim women need them to obtain an Islamic divorce. On the other hand, Muslim men can divorce unilaterally even without these courts.

According to World Population Review, Sharia law is fully implemented in 14 countries of the world.
