Today, on January 20, the first trading day of the week, the Sensex opened with a gain of 359 points at the level of 76,978. Nifty is also up by 80 points, it is trading at the level of 23,290.

Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 23 are rising and 7 are declining. Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 36 are rising and 15 are declining. All sectors in the NSE Sectoral Index are trading with gains. Private banking sector is trading with maximum growth of 1.42%.

Asian markets boom

  • In the Asian market, Japan’s Nikkei is up by 1.29% and Korea’s Kospi is up by 0.076%. Whereas China’s Shanghai Composite Index is trading with a rise of 0.45%.
  • According to NSE data, on January 17, foreign investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,318.06 crore. During this period, domestic investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,572.88 crore.
  • On January 17, America’s Dow Jones closed at 43,487 with a rise of 0.78%. The S&P 500 index rose 1.00% to close at 5,996. The Nasdaq index rose 1.51%.

There was a decline in the market on Friday

Earlier on Friday i.e. January 17, the Sensex had fallen by 423 points and closed at the level of 76,619. Nifty also fell by 109 points, it would close at the level of 23,201.

Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 16 were up and 14 were down. Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 29 were up and 21 were down. Whereas, one stock closed without any change. The private banking sector was the biggest loser in the NSE sectoral index, falling 2.17%.
