11 July 2021
It was afternoon time. Lahore Police received a call from a person. He identified himself as Mohammad Nasir and said that he had reached home to meet his sister Nayaab Nadeem. He did not open the door for a long time, when the circumstances seemed suspicious, he went inside from the other way and found his sister’s dead body lying on the floor. There were no clothes on his body.
As soon as information about the incident was received, Lahore Police reached Phase-5 of DHA (Defence Housing Authority). The scene was really scary. The house was completely in disarray and the body was found naked. There were no clothes on the girl’s body.
Nasir, who informed the police during initial interrogation, said that 29-year-old deceased Nayab Nadeem was his half-sister. She lived alone in a Defense Housing Authority house and did modeling and acting.
Who was Nayaab Nadeem?
Nayaab Nadeem was born in 1992 in Pakistan. Since childhood, Nayab, who was very beautiful in appearance, had a lot of interest in the world of entertainment.
Not much information is available about Nayab’s family. However, some reports suggest that his father had remarried, from whom he had two half-brothers, Nasir and Ahmed.
Nayaab Nadeem entered the world of modeling only after initial studies. However, modeling was an uncultured profession for her conservative family. This was the reason why Nayab’s family was strictly against his profession. The family wanted Nayab to get married and settle down, but the independent minded Nayab wanted to become self-reliant by achieving success in the world of modeling and acting.
When the rift between Nayab and his family started increasing day by day, one day Nayab left her father’s house and bought a house in Phase-5 of DHA (Defence Housing Authority), Lahore and started living alone.
She met her family only on rare occasions. His family members also used to come to meet him sometimes for festivals or other works. His stepbrother also came to the house occasionally to ask for help.
Brother had gone to Dubai, when he returned Nayab had called him home to meet him.
Nasir, who informed the police about Nayab’s murder, told the police during interrogation that he often used to visit his step sister’s house. He had gone to Dubai with his family a few days ago, when he returned he contacted Nayab. Nayab had called him to meet him in the afternoon on 11 July 2021.
Feeling of untoward incident after seeing Nayab’s car parked outside the house
He had come to meet Nayab at the given time, but despite ringing the doorbell for a long time, Nayab did not open the door. He also made several calls to Nayab from outside the house, but did not get any response. When he was about to return, his eyes fell on Nayab’s car parked outside the house. Usually, Nayab used to go out in her own car, in such a situation the situation started bothering her. When the situation seemed suspicious, Nasir broke the door and entered inside and was shocked to see the scene. His sister was lying on the floor and there was not even a single piece of clothing on her body. He immediately covered the body and went closer to investigate and found that Nayab’s breathing had stopped.
Nayab’s house located in Phase-5 of DHA (Defence Housing Authority), Lahore.
During investigation the bathroom window was found broken
During investigation, the police found that the bathroom window of Nayab’s house was broken. From this, the police guessed that the robbers might have entered Nayaab’s house, but when he protested, the robbers might have committed murder and rape. A knife and drugs were also recovered from Nayab’s house. The place where Nayaab’s body was found, his scarf was also lying nearby.
The police sent Nayab’s body for postmortem and the forensic team scanned the entire house closely. After postmortem, Nayab’s body was handed over to his father and step brothers.
Two similar murders took place in the same area
A few weeks ago, a British-Pakistani Mahira was murdered in the Defense Housing Authority Phase-5 where Nayaab Nadeem lived. A 25 year old woman also lived alone in that area. There were many similarities in both the murders. Even in the Mahira murder case, the police’s hands were empty, so the police proceeded with the investigation assuming that perhaps this would be a case of serial killing, in which robbers would target women living alone and kill them.
Unknown person seen doing recce of the house in CCTV camera
The footage of CCTV cameras installed around the area was also being scanned. CCTV footage revealed that a person was seen repeatedly around Nayab’s house. However, due to poor camera quality, the man’s face could not be seen clearly.
The person doing Reiki was captured in CCTV camera.
Only a few days had passed when the police came to a dead end while investigating a serial killing. Actually, Mahira murder case was solved. Mahira’s two friends took responsibility for her murder. However, when he was questioned about the murder of Nayaab Nadeem, he clearly denied any connection with it.
Meanwhile, Nayab’s postmortem report also worried the police. He died due to strangulation and before his death he had a long fight with the murderer.
The most shocking thing in the postmortem report was that Nayaab Nadeem was not physically abused. Now the biggest question was that if rape did not happen then why were their clothes removed.
After remaining empty handed in the last two angles, the police started investigation about the family and personal life of Nayaab Nadeem. On interrogating some people associated with him, it was found that Nayaab Nadeem often had fights with his step brothers. Whereas when the brothers were interrogated, they clearly denied the matter of quarrel.
When the mobile records were scrutinized, it was revealed that Nayab had not talked to anyone before his death, while on the other hand, his brother’s location was around Nayab’s house for several hours before the police was informed.
On the basis of suspicion, the police took Nayab’s step brother Nasir on remand. He continued to mislead the police for several hours, but after being strictly enforced, Nasir finally broke down.
He told the police in his confession of crime that he had objection to Nayaab Nadeem doing modeling and acting. He had tried to convince her many times, but she was not ready to leave her profession. Nasir told that Nayab had relations with many different people, due to which his family was being tainted. Due to fear of being defamed in the society, Nasir conspired to murder Nayab.
Nayaab Nadeem was seen in the Pakistani music video Gaddi Tu Maang De.
How did the step brother commit the murder? Why were the clothes removed?
After returning from Dubai, Nasir contacted his step sister Nayab and asked her to come to his house on some pretext. When Nasir reached home in the afternoon, he again started an argument by raising the issue of Nayab’s illicit relations. However, he had reached their house with a conspiracy to murder. He mixed drugs in Nayaab’s food, after consuming which she became unconscious. Nasir strangled her to death with her own scarf.
Nasir removed all the clothes from his own sister’s body to make the murder look like robbery and rape. After some time, he locked the house from inside and came out by breaking the bathroom window and then informed the police.
While informing PTI about the solution of Nayaab Nadeem’s blind murder case, Punjab Police spokesperson Rana Arif also said that the killer Nasir also wanted to take over Nayaab’s house.
Pakistan’s worst situation in terms of honor killings
Every year 5 thousand honor killings take place around the world. About 20% of these cases occur in India. Neighboring country Pakistan has the worst track record in terms of honor killings. According to Pakistan Human Rights Commission data, more than 450 such incidents were recorded in 2021 alone.
There were 15,222 murders in Pakistan between 2004 and 2016. That means 1170 murders are taking place every year and 22 murders every week. This figure is the highest in the world. Many efforts were made to stop it, but all these efforts have proved inadequate so far.
The law became stricter after the murder of Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch.
In 2016, the brother of Pakistan’s famous model and influencer Qandeel Baloch murdered her in the name of honor killing. Due to the discussion of the murder of Qandeel Baloch, questions were raised on the safety of women in Pakistan all over the world, due to which in the year 2016, a strict law was also introduced in Pakistan to stop honor killings. This law had a provision of even death penalty for those found guilty of honor killing, but under the pressure of fundamentalists, this law became weak after several amendments.
