India’s parliamentary committee will send defamation summons to META, the company that operates Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. This summons will be sent regarding the statement of META CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in which he had said that the Modi government had lost in India after Covid.
BJP MP and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Communication-Information Technology Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday said that META should apologize for spreading misinformation.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a podcast on January 10, ‘The fall of Covid governments in 2024 shows the public’s distrust of them.’
After Zuckerberg’s statement, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said, ’64 crore people had participated in the Indian elections. People trusted PM Modi and NDA. Zuckerberg should maintain facts and credibility.

META- Dubey should apologize to the Indian Parliament
Nishikant Dubey, MP from Godda in the Lok Sabha, said, “We have decided that we will call the people of Meta. Zuckerberg has shown by giving a statement that an atmosphere has been created against the government after Covid-19, in which he also mentioned India. This statement of his is worrying. This kind of statement shows that he is interfering in the democracy of the country and misleading the world that BJP-NDA has lost.
Dubey said, “We have decided that we will call the people of Meta. They will have to apologize, otherwise our committee will take action. We will talk to the committee members and ask them to be present between January 20-24. “

Mark Zuckerberg was discussing the lack of trust in governments following the COVID-19 pandemic in a podcast with Joe Rogan. During this he said that 2024 was a big election year. There were elections in all these countries including India. Almost all the incumbents lost the elections.
Some kind of global event occurred throughout the year. Be it because of inflation. Because of the economic policies to deal with Covid or because of the way governments have dealt with Covid. It seems its impact was global.
People’s resentment and anger influenced election results across the world. All the people in power lost. The Narendra Modi led government also lost.
BJP gets 240 seats in 2024 elections In the 18th Lok Sabha elections held in the country in June 2024, BJP and NDA got a total of 291 seats. BJP fell 32 seats short of absolute majority. The current government has 4 major allies in alliance, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), with 16 seats, Janata Dal United (JDU), with 12 seats, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), with 7 seats and Lok Janshakti Party, with 5 seats.
Zuckerberg said- WhatsApp chat can be leaked A statement by Mark Zuckerberg has created concern among millions of users around the world. Zuckerberg said that WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption protects users’ privacy, but if a government agency gets access to the device, it can read the chats stored in it.
He said that if spyware like Pegasus is installed on a device, then agencies can access its content. However, keeping the threats in mind, WhatsApp has included the disappearing messages feature, which automatically deletes the chats from the device after a fixed time.
Meta may open data center in India Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is likely to set up its first data center in India at the Reliance Industries campus in Chennai. According to media reports, Zuckerberg had attended the pre-wedding function of Anant Ambani, younger son of businessman Mukesh Ambani, held in Jamnagar in March 2024. That’s why he signed an agreement with Reliance regarding this.
The data center will help Meta in processing content generated by users locally on its apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. However, no official statement has come out yet about the deal.
