New Delhi. Indian team’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be a part of India’s 15-member ICC Champions Trophy 2025 team. He got injured in the last match of the last series played against Australia. There are questions about his fitness but it is certain that he will be given a place in the team to be selected on Saturday, January 18. It is difficult to select wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and Karun Nair, who have shown explosive performance in domestic cricket in the last few months.
According to the report of India Today, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is suffering from back problem, will be a part of the team selected for the Champions Trophy. However, everything will depend on his fitness regarding playing in the tournament. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma will hold a meeting in Mumbai for team selection. BCCI has informed that there will be a press conference after the selection committee meeting at Wankhede Stadium.
Bumrah will be part of the team
Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the match played against Australia in Sydney between 3 to 6 January. He did not bowl in the second innings. Upon his availability, it was told, “The selectors want Bumrah to play at least one match before the Champions Trophy so that his fitness can be assessed and a final decision can be taken.”
Selection of Sanju Samson and Karun Nair difficult
It is difficult for Karun Nair, who batted brilliantly in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 752 runs in 7 innings of 8 matches, to get a place in the team. Karun last played a 50-over match for India against Zimbabwe in Harare on 13 June 2016. In such a situation, the selectors believe that it would not be wise to recall Nair just before a major tournament, who last represented India in 2017.
It is difficult for wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson, who showed tremendous performance in T20 last year, to be selected in the Champions Trophy team. He has been selected for the five-match T20 series against England. 30-year-old Samson may not be selected for the ODI series and Champions Trophy. According to reports, his decision to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy has not gone down well with the BCCI officials and selectors.
