New Delhi. During the Border Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia, star bowler Jasprit Bumrah gave a historic performance by taking 32 wickets. He was out after getting injured during the last match played in Sydney. Former Indian cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu has said that bowling 15 overs in a day and that too in different spells is not a big deal for a bowler. If a bowler cannot bowl 20 overs in an innings then he should give up his dream of playing for India. This statement has come when the whole country is worried about the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah.
Team India’s superstar Jasprit Bumrah took 32 wickets in five matches against Australia, which included the feat of taking five wickets thrice. Bumrah has become the Indian taking the most wickets during a series in Australia. He received the Player of the Series award. During the series, Indian bowlers were not getting much help from the wicket, hence Bumrah had to bowl again and again. Due to this, his workload increased and he suffered a back strain in the last test.
Rejecting the workload theory, Sandhu said that bowling an average of 15 to 20 overs in an innings is not a big deal. Speaking to Times of India, Sandhu said, “Workload? How many overs did he bowl? Around 150 but in how many matches or innings. Five matches or nine innings. This means 16 overs per innings or 30 overs per match and he did not bowl more than 15 overs at a time.”
“To bowl 15 overs in a day and that too in different spells, is not a big deal for a bowler. You are not bowling on all five days of the Test. He bowled these overs in three or four spells. Today you have the best physiotherapists, massage therapists and best doctors who take care of your body.”
