A VOR landing or manual landing was carried out at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after a Buddha Air plane in Nepal caught fire in its left engine. There were 76 people including crew members on board the plane. There is no news of any casualty in this accident yet.

A press release issued by the Nepal government said that a Buddha Air plane had landed 43 kilometers east of the capital Kathmandu due to a fire in the left engine. After which it returned to Kathmandu flying on a single engine.

Its manual landing was done at Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:15 am. All the passengers and crew members on board the plane are completely safe.

What is VOR landing? VOR landing is a kind of part of manual landing. VOR landing is a method for pilots to navigate and land aircraft using signals from a ground-base radio station called a VOR (Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range). This helps pilots line up with the runway when they cannot see it clearly.

Geographical situation is a big challenge for pilots Experts say that inaccessible mountainous terrain, bad weather, old aircraft and inexperienced pilots make Nepal the most dangerous country for flights. According to the 2019 safety report of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the dangerous geographical location of the country is also a big challenge for the pilots.

About 3 crore people live in Nepal. Out of the 14 highest mountains in the world, 8 including Mount Everest are located here. According to the report, Nepal’s only international airport is in a narrow valley at 1,338 meters above sea level, due to which planes get very tight space to turn.
