The Yunus government of Bangladesh is trying to erase the legacy of former President and Sheikh Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Under this, the present government has decided to make changes in the text books of Bangladesh. According to Daily Star, from now on it will be told in the book that Bangladesh got independence from Pakistan in the year 1971, not by Mujibur Rahman but by Ziaur Rahman.
Ziaur Rahman was the husband of former Bangladesh President Khaleda Zia. He was also the army chief of the country. Later he became the President of the country. In the year 1981, he was murdered by some people associated with the army. According to the report, Mujib’s title of ‘Father of the Nation’ has also been removed in the new book. This book will be taught to students from primary to secondary level.
Controversy regarding declaration of independence of Bangladesh It has always been disputed in Bangladesh as to who declared independence there. The Awami League claims that the announcement was made by ‘Bangabandhu’ Mujibur Rahman, while Khaleda Zia’s BNP party gives credit for it to its founder Ziaur Rahman.
