London . After dealing with the pressure of being an Indian cricketer, R Ashwin is set to do much more on the cricket field in the next few years. This 38-year-old player surprised the cricket world by announcing his retirement after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He returned to his home in Chennai the next day where people gave him a warm welcome. Speaking to former England captain Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain on Sky Sports, Ashwin said that one of the reasons for his retirement midway through the series was that he was not getting creative satisfaction from his game.

He said, “When people ask me ‘What’s next?’ The one line I’ve always said is that the day I wake up and realize that my work lacks creativity or has no direction, then I’ll probably quit.” He said, ”I definitely Seems like there wasn’t much to explore in terms of the creative side. Today there are possibilities to do a lot in world cricket. So I thought, okay if not here I can find something else.”

The bowler, who is the second highest wicket taker for India in Test cricket, said that he will continue playing in the Indian Premier League along with club level cricket. When Ashwin was asked that he is the seventh most successful bowler in Test cricket and how much satisfaction this fact gives him. “I will not remain seventh in the list for long,” he said. Nathan Lyon is very close to me. Would also be happy to slip to number eight. Whatever number I am in the end, I am happy to get it.
