New Delhi. The bitter fruits of man’s deeds are now beginning to come to the fore. Due to climate change, the entire human community will have to be prepared to face serious consequences. The speed of melting of ice in the polar region has increased significantly. Its effect is now being felt on the Earth’s rotation as well. A new study has revealed that the Earth’s speed is slowing down. This is going to affect the duration of day and night. The speed of melting of ice in Greenland and Antarctic region has increased significantly. This is happening due to increase in temperature. Water is moving towards the equator, due to which an increase in the mass of the Earth has been recorded. This has affected the Earth’s speed.
The latest study of ETH Zurich has made shocking revelations about the effects of climate change. The study report published in Nature Geoscience states that due to climate change, significant changes are being seen in the rotation and axis of the Earth. This problem has arisen due to melting of ice in the polar region. The flow of water is happening towards the equator, in such a situation the mass of the Earth is becoming unbalanced. Due to the slowing down of the Earth’s speed and change in the axis, the duration of day and night is changing. Professor Benedikt Soja, who led the study, wrote in the study report that the speed of the Earth is slowing down due to the mass moving away from the Earth’s axis.
Do elephants really call each other by name? Other animals do this too
days are long, nights are short
The effect of climate change is now clearly visible. Its ill effects are coming in many forms. According to a new study, the ice in Greenland and Antarctica region located on the North and South Poles of the Earth is melting rapidly. Its water is shifting towards the equator. Due to this, the mass of the Earth is increasing and the speed of rotation of the Earth is slowing down. Due to the slowing down of the speed of the Earth, the length of the day is increasing. At the same time, nights are becoming shorter. If this condition remains, then the situation may become even worse in the future.
By the year 2100, days will be 2.2 milliseconds longer
Surendra Adhikari, who contributed to the study report, said that the study has made some shocking revelations. According to this, if greenhouse gases continue to be released at this pace, then by the end of the 21st century the earth will become so hot that its effect will be more than the pull of the moon. He said that since the year 1900, the days have become 0.8 milliseconds longer due to climate change and if the emission of greenhouse gases continues to increase in this way, then by the year 2100, the days will start becoming 2.2 milliseconds longer due to climate change alone.
