Women in C Suite Roles in India Only at 19 Percent Shocking Insights from Report


Despite efforts and rules to promote gender diversity by companies in India, women’s share in C-suits is only 19 percent. This global average is much less than 30%. There have been shocking revelations about this in a recent study.

The avatar, which is a workplace culture consulting firm, has revealed in the study made by him that the lack of work and balance of personal life is the biggest challenge for women. Those who replied 60% percent of the answer described it as an important obstacle. According to reports, this study has revealed that there are many reasons to prevent women from reaching C-suits.

Research found that the atrition rate (job quit rate) among women at senior leadership level was 4% in 2019, which increased to 10% in 2020. This increase shows the impact on the career of women due to epidemic. However, in 2023, this rate declined slightly to 9% and 8% in 2024. Which indicates progress, but it is still above the pre -epidemic level.

Lack of gender bias and talent big obstacles

It was also said in the report that in the progress of women, there are big problems of gender bias (gender partiality) and eligible candidates. 44% of the respondents admitted that the bias in recruitment and promotion is disrupting the progress of women. At the same time, 41% said that lack of availability of women for senior leadership posts is also a big challenge.

Role of events and technology

The study suggested that the use of data and artificial intelligence may be helpful in reducing sexual bias and leading to more opportunities for women. Also, the respondents said that the culture of organizations should improve so that women can perform better on leadership positions.
