How many years is the tenure of the Governor?

According to Article 156 of the Indian Constitution, the Governor can hold office for a period of five years from the date of assuming his office. That means the tenure of the Governor is for five years. The person eligible to be appointed as Governor must be a citizen of India. Apart from this, the age of the person appointed as Governor should be thirty-five years or more.

Who can remove the Governor?

Now the question is, who can remove the Governor in the country? Let us tell you that the final decision whether to remove the Governor or Lieutenant Governor of any state of the country is taken by the President of the country. However, according to Article 74 of the Constitution, there will be a Council of Ministers to aid and advise the President, whose head will be the Prime Minister. According to the Constitution, the President will take his decisions only on the advice of the Council of Ministers.

Can the Governor himself resign?

According to Article 156 of the Constitution, the Governor can leave his post at his own will, for this he has to write a letter to the President requesting him to accept the resignation. With the immediate effect of the President accepting the resignation, the Governor is relieved from his post.
