New Delhi: These days anything is being done in the name of religion. A murder has been committed in the Netherlands in the name of religion. Police said that a man armed with ‘two knives’ stabbed a person to death on Thursday, September 19, in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The other person was badly injured in the attack. The suspect, who was also injured, has been taken into police custody.
Police spokesman Wessel Stoll said the stabbing incident near the historic Erasmus Bridge was under investigation. He said there was no clear picture of the motive, but “all possible scenarios” were being investigated. Local media quoted people present at the scene as claiming that a man attacked people with two sharp knives while shouting “Allahu Akbar”.
Sports trainer showed bravery
A sports trainer who was taking a class near the Erasmus Bridge where the stabbing incident took place claimed that he managed to overpower the attacker. He said, “I saw a man with two long knives stabbing a young man. It was a man with two long knives who was stabbing another young man and when I started shouting he turned around and started moving towards everyone around him. I eventually managed to fend them off.”
As soon as the news of the attack was heard, police and emergency service personnel reached the spot. Police spokesperson Christel Arntz said that it is too early to know the motive of the attacker. She said, “We have arrested a suspect, we are going to question him. We will look at the statements of all the witnesses and then we will see what the possible motive was.” The identity of the victims and the suspect is not clear.
