Washington: One of the 104 illegal migrants deployed from the US is also Harvinder Singh of Tahli village in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. The US sent illegal migrants to India through the American military aircraft C-17 Globmaster. Before landing in Amritsar, it stopped to fill fuel four times. Harvinder said that he could not sleep, because he could not fulfill the promises he had made to his wife before going to America through Danki route.

A large number of people from Punjab have been illegally visiting America. Harvinder was living by selling milk. He lived with his wife, 12 -year -old son and 11 -year -old daughter. In June 2024, he decided to go to America. One of his relatives told that he will reach America in 15 days by paying 42 lakh rupees. He was implicated that it would be a valid route rather than a staunch. To raise 42 lakh rupees, Harvinder pledged his only land and took a loan at a high interest rate. Kuljinder said, ‘For 8 months my husband continued to be sent from one country to another.’
American Dream’s dream broken
During his journey, Harvinder faced the deadly situation. He recorded a video of his struggle and sent it to Kuljinder. The last time he spoke on 15 January. The news of his Departation was nothing short of a shock for Kuljinder. She came to know from the villagers that 104 people were among her husbands, who will be sent back from America. Kuljinder said that after losing contact with Harvinder last month, he lodged a complaint against the travel agent in the village panchayat. She is demanding strict action against the agent and returning Rs 42 lakh. He said, ‘We have lost everything. We were doing all this for the better future of our children. But now we are left with debt. Kuljinder also told that the agent collected money during every journey of Harvinder. Two and a half months ago, when he was in Guatemala, the agent last asked him for 10 lakh rupees. This story is not only of Harvinder but of thousands of people who go to America illegally in the desire of ‘American Dream’.
