Typhoon Shanshan wreaks havoc in Japan, winds blowing at a speed of 140 KM per hour, 3 people died


Tokyo. At least three people were killed on Thursday as a typhoon brought heavy rain and strong winds to southern Japan. Floods, landslides and widespread damage are expected as the storm intensifies. The Japan Meteorological Agency said Typhoon Shanshan made landfall near Satsumasendai in southern Kyushu in the morning, where up to 60 cm (23.6 inches) of rain is expected in 24 hours. It also said that strong winds, high waves and heavy rain are expected in most parts of the country, especially in southern Kyushu. The highest level of warning has been issued for this.

People in areas where storm warnings have been issued have been urged to take shelter in community centers and other public shelters. Japan Meteorological Agency said that till morning ‘Shanshan’ remained active around the southern island of Kyushu. It is moving north at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and continuous winds are blowing at a speed of 144 kilometers per hour. According to the city’s disaster management department, landslides occurred due to heavy rains before the storm hit. Due to which a house collapsed in Gamagori. Three people died and two others were injured in this incident.

The Meteorological Department and administrative officials are worried about large-scale damage as the storm will slowly hit the Japanese archipelago in the next few days. There is also a risk of floods and landslides due to this. Disaster Management Minister Yoshifumi Matsumura said that strong winds, high waves and heavy rains are expected due to the storm. Hundreds of domestic flights connecting southwestern cities and islands were canceled on Thursday and bullet trains and suburban rail services also had to be stopped. Similar steps may be taken on the main island of Honshu till Sunday. Postal and goods delivery services have also been suspended in the Kyushu region and preparations are also on to close supermarkets and other stores.
