A media Report According to, telecom companies, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, appealed against TRAI’s order to impose penalty. However, in this case the government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) did not appeal to TDSAT. Telecom companies said that when TRAI imposed a penalty, the Digital Consent Acquen (DCA) platform was being implemented. In this case, TDSAT has banned the penalty due to allegations from both sides. The next hearing of the case will be held on 13 February.
Telecom companies do not want to pay penalty as their cash flow is already pressure. TDSAT has said that telecom companies are not responsible for delay in implementing regulations including DCA. Apart from Airtel and Reliance Jio, this penalty was imposed on Vodafone Idea and BSNL for about Rs 141 crore. Earlier, these companies have been fined under the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR). TRAI requested the Telecom Department (DOT) to recover the fine.
TCCCPR was implemented in 2010. Its purpose is to secure subscribers with spam calls and messages. The new rule called TRAI’s message tradition has been implemented from December 11 last year. This rule will help reduce spam messages. From the person sending messages from the new system to its delivery can be tracked. With this, telemarketers and other parties involved in sending messages will be tracked. The new system will block the promotional and spam messages that registered by registered firms. Recently, Airtel had reported that more than 8 billion spam calls have been warned on its network. The company launched a solution related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Six percent of the total calls on the company’s network and about two percent of all the SMS were identified as spam.
