New Delhi. The first team to reach the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has been decided. Australia has confirmed its place from Group A. Now from this group any one team from India, Pakistan and New Zealand will get the ticket for the semi-finals. Whereas two out of the three teams of Group B will get a chance to go to the next round. In the tournament being played between 10 teams, 5-5 teams have been divided into two groups. 2-2 teams from both the groups will reach the semi-finals.

There is currently a competition between the teams of India, Pakistan and New Zealand to make it to the semi-finals. Sri Lankan team is out of the race from Group A while Australia has confirmed its place in the next round with three consecutive wins. Till now the picture is not clear on who will be the two teams from Group B. Scotland and Bangladesh are out of the race for the semi-finals. One team from West Indies, South Africa and England will be out.

6 teams in the race for semi-finals
Talking about Group A, Australia is on top of the points table after winning three consecutive matches. India is in second place with 2 wins after playing 3 matches. New Zealand has 1 win in 2 matches and Pakistan has won 1 match in 3 matches and is at fourth position in the points table. Talking about Group B, West Indies and South Africa have 2 wins in 3 matches. England has achieved 2 consecutive wins. India, New Zealand and Pakistan are in Group A while West Indies, South Africa and England are in the race for the semi-finals from Group B.

How is the semi-final equation?
Talking about Group A, there is competition among three teams for one place. India has to play the last league match with Australia. New Zealand team has to play with Sri Lanka and Pakistan. If India wins its match, then after 3 wins from 4 matches, it will have 6 points equal to Australia. If New Zealand wins both its league matches, it will also have 6 points. In such a situation, whoever is ahead on the basis of net run rate between India and New Zealand will go to the semi-finals.

If the Indian team loses to Australia and the New Zealand team loses to Pakistan and defeats Sri Lanka, then all three teams will have 4 points each and here too the matter will come down to net run rate. If India wins its match against Australia and New Zealand loses both the matches. In such a situation, India will directly reach the semi-finals. Because Pakistan will have only 4 points after victory over New Zealand while India will have 6 points. In Group B also, all three teams West Indies, England and South Africa have a chance to reach 6 points. The matter may come down to net run rate.
