The company’s fortunes have brightened thanks to the ₹ 7.99 lakh SUV, performing better than Maruti-Tata despite low sales

New Delhi. Kia Motor India has announced a 17% year-on-year growth in August 2024 sales. The company’s dispatch stood at 22,523 units in August 2024 as compared to 19,219 units in August 2023. Kia said that the company sold 10,073 units of Sonet, 6,536 units of Seltos, 5,881 units of Carens and 33 units of EV6 electric car last month. Kia Sonet is the company’s most affordable SUV, priced starting at ₹ 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

At the same time, if we talk about some of the big companies of the Indian market, their sales also declined in August after July. Last month, Maruti Suzuki registered a 4% year-on-year decline in sales. The total sales of the company’s vehicles in August stood at 1,81,782 units, while in August 2023 it was 1,89,082 units.

Tata Motors sales also declined
During this period, sales of Tata and MG Motors have also declined. Tata Motors reported total sales of 71,693 units for August 2024, up from 78,010 units in August 2023. The company’s domestic sales stood at 70,006 units and declined by 8% year-on-year from 76,261 units in August 2023.

Toyota and Hyundai sales increased
Hyundai Motor India recorded a 12% growth in total sales in August 2024, reaching 71,435 units as compared to 63,175 units sold in the same month last year. Despite this overall growth, domestic vehicle dispatches witnessed a decline of 8%, falling to 49,525 units from 53,830 units a year ago.

Toyota’s SUVs also performed well. Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded an impressive 35% year-on-year growth in August 2024. The company reported wholesale sales of 30,879 units, up from 22,910 units in the same month last year.

SUVs and MPVs have been the major contributors to the company’s sales, indicating a growing preference for these vehicle segments. This trend is not just limited to major urban areas but also includes tier-2 and tier-3 markets, indicating the wide acceptance of Toyota vehicles.
