Hansal Mehta On The Buckingham Murders: Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders was released in theatres last Friday. The makers as well as the audience had high expectations from this film but this film is not able to do anything special at the box office and in fact it has become one of Kareena’s lowest grossing films till date. The Buckingham Murders is directed by Hansal Mehta and he himself cannot believe how this film is not working. He has broken his silence on The Buckingham Murders not doing well at the box office.
Hansal Mehta talked about the poor numbers of The Buckingham Murders in an interview with DNA. He said- It would be a lie if I say that I don’t get nervous. I can now afford to take a break. Earlier it was not like this so I used to hide. Now I was cut off before the release of the film. This teaches you that you move ahead and you get stuck.
Said this about the number
Hansal Mehta further said- It is a difficult balance. PR firms do not let me cut it off so easily. Unfortunately, what happens is that we have made it a very small game, a weekend game. Whereas, I believe that films are for posterity. You can consider the time. We no longer give it that time. We limit films to a number and I think it degrades your work a lot. People who have nothing to do with the film and its investment become commentators and behave like stakeholders, without a holistic understanding of how the business model of films actually works.
Talking about the work front of The Buckingham Murders, this film has so far been able to collect only 6.5 crores. In the film, Kareena played the role of a detective and mother who investigates the murder of a 10-year-old child after losing her own child.
