The batsman who scored 501 runs in an innings, has scored 53 centuries in international cricket, who is this legend?


New Delhi. Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara holds the record of scoring 400 runs in an innings of Test cricket. Till date no one has been able to come close to this record. Perhaps only a few of you might know that Lara has also scored 500 runs. But he did this feat in first class cricket. Let us know when he did this feat.

In 1994, while playing for Warwickshire in the English county, Lara played an unbeaten inning of 501 runs against Durham. This is still the highest score made by any batsman in first class cricket. Against England, he faced 427 balls and hit 62 fours and 10 sixes. Even today this is the highest score made in first class. Warwickshire had scored 810 runs. But the match was a draw.

Lara has played 133 Tests and 299 ODIs for West Indies. During this period, he has scored 11953 runs in Tests with 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries. At the same time, he was the highest run scorer for the Caribbean team in Tests. He scored 10405 runs in ODI also. He scored 19 centuries in this format. Lara has also scored triple century twice in Test cricket. He has 53 centuries in his name in international cricket.

Although Lara has played innings of 375, 400* and 501* runs in his career. But more special for him is the inning of 277 runs which he played against Australia in the 1993 Sydney Test. This was Lara’s fifth test. He scored a century for the first time in this match. He scored his first century in Sydney. Therefore, after this innings, he named his daughter Sydney.
