New Delhi. Elon Musk, the world’s richest businessman and owner of electric car company Tesla, is once again in the headlines for his company’s entry in India. This time the discussions are not limited to the plant only, but there are reports of the company taking steps towards opening dealerships and showrooms.
According to media reports, Tesla can open its first showroom in India by the end of this year. In a Reuters report quoting sources, it has been said that Tesla has started looking for a showroom space in Delhi. This step is being considered as the first official start of Tesla’s entry in India.
Tesla’s investment plan in India
Tesla temporarily halted its investment plans earlier this year. However, now the company is preparing to become active again in the Indian market. Elon Musk had indicated in April that he may meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to India. During this time he could have announced an investment of 2-3 billion US dollars in India. However, this trip was canceled at the last moment due to the decline in Tesla’s sales in the global market and layoff of 10% of the employees.
Search for showroom and service center in Delhi
According to sources, Tesla has started looking for space for its dealership and customer experience center in Delhi. The company is in talks with big real estate developers like DLF for this project.
It is being told that Tesla is planning to build a Consumer Experience Center on 3,000 to 5,000 square feet of land. Apart from this, approximately 15,000 square feet of land will be required for the delivery and service center. The report also said that Tesla is evaluating locations like DLF Avenue Mall in South Delhi and Cyber Hub in Gurugram.
