Team India’s star spinner R Ashwin has retired from international cricket. He announced this after the Gaba Test of India and Australia. Ashwin was the biggest match winner for Team India in the last 13-14 years. The third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was played in Brisbane. Due to rain, the match ended in a draw and with this Ashwin also announced his retirement.

Various things are being said after Ashwin’s retirement and it is also being claimed that he was put under pressure to announce his retirement. Former Team India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was put under pressure to announce Ashwin’s retirement. Whereas the Indian legend held the team management responsible for this and also criticized them fiercely.

Talking about the current Australia tour, the Indian team has played three test matches so far, out of which it won one and lost the other. Ashwin did not get a chance in the Perth Test, whereas he was included in the playing 11 in the Adelaide Test. In his column in Mid Day, Gavaskar has fiercely cursed the team management. Gavaskar said that batsmen and bowlers are treated differently in overseas conditions, writing that there was no reason to leave him out in home Tests as the management knew they could not win matches without him. If it is said that the pitch and conditions are not suitable for the number one Test bowler, then why is the same not done with the batsmen?

Gavaskar also feels that Ashwin could have become a successful captain in Tests, but he was not given this opportunity. He wrote in his column that Ashwin could have proved to be a good captain for Team India, but he did not even get a chance to become the vice-captain. Therefore, it was good to see that Rohit Sharma gave Ashwin a chance to captain him in his 100th Test.
