Star cricketer hit 40th century, hopes to return to Team India after 13 months, waved the bat in England


New Delhi. Veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who was sidelined from the Indian cricket team, is making a lot of noise with his bat in England. This former captain of Team India has scored a brilliant century in the County Championship Division 2 match. This is the 40th century of Rahane’s first class cricket career. Playing for Leicestershire, he played a brilliant innings against Glamorgan. He scored a century in the match being played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and brought Leicestershire back. Rahane, who has been away from the Test team for almost 13 months, is hoping to return to Team India. This century would have boosted his confidence.

Ajinkya Rahane played an innings of 102 runs off 190 balls for Leicestershire against Glamorgan. Glamorgan had scored 550 runs for 9 wickets in the first innings. Rahane’s innings has raised some hopes for Leicestershire. With this, Rahane ended his century drought in first class cricket that had been going on for almost two years. He scored his 39th century in January 2023 in a Ranji Trophy match against Assam.

Rahane and Handscomb take charge of Leicestershire
Two overseas batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Peter Handscomb pulled Leicestershire out of trouble. At one point, Leicestershire had lost three wickets at a score of 74. After being all out at 251 in the first innings, Leicestershire batsman Rahane, along with Handscomb, took charge of the innings. Both of them shared a 183-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Rahane was dismissed by part-time off-spinner Kiran Carlson before the lunch break. When Rahane was dismissed, Handscomb was playing after scoring 90 runs.

Rahane is out of Team India from July 2023
Ajinkya Rahane last played for Team India in July 2023. Since then he is out of Team India. On one hand, domestic cricket is going to start in India, on the other hand, Rahane has indicated his return to form by scoring a century. Duleep Trophy will be organized in India from September 5. He has not got a place in the team for this tournament. India’s top batsmen will be seen playing with the red ball in the four-day tournament.
