ODI World Cup hero, IPL champion captain, BCCI still set the run of runs

IND VS ENG: Shreyas Iyer scored 530 runs in the ODI World Cup and made KKR an IPL champion, yet could not make a place in the team. Ricky Ponting also surprised his neglect.

New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer is the pawn of the Indian cricket team, who walks with tricks, but every time he is sacrificed like a pawn. He scored 530 runs in 11 matches in the ODI World Cup. When the BCCI dropped out of the Central Contact, KKR under his captaincy responded by making it an IPL champion. Shreyas Iyer is an all format player, but despite this he could not confirm his place in the team till date.

Australian veteran Ricky Ponting has also expressed surprise about this. Shreyas Iyer, who is in excellent form, has the ability to dominate spinners on slow pitches of the subcontinent. Iyer played an important role in taking India to the finals of 50 overs in 2023. The middle order batsman was the seventh highest run -scorer in the tournament with 530 runs.

Two centuries in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Iyer on Thursday gave proof of his ability in this format by scoring 59 off 36 balls in the first ODI against England in Nagpur. In domestic cricket too, 30 -year -old Iyer is in excellent form this season and he scored two centuries for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Punjab Kings coach Ponting bought Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore for the upcoming IPL session.

Iyer proves again and again
Ricky Ponting said in ‘ICC Review’, ‘I am a little surprised that he has been out of the Indian team for the last few years. He played a brilliant World Cup (2023) in India, in which he performed brilliantly in the middle order. I then felt that they had almost confirmed that place. However, he got some hurt again. He was out of the team due to back injury, but this year his domestic season has been excellent.
