Microsoft Windows Outage: On Friday morning around 10:45, due to a problem in Microsoft’s server, there was a sudden chaos at airports across the country and the world. Due to this technical fault, the check-in systems of various airlines came to a complete halt. As a result, the movement of aircraft of airlines taking technical support from Microsoft at most airports came to a complete halt for some time. However, after some time the airlines tried to handle the situation by issuing manual boarding cards.
Despite this, the delay in the departure of flights from almost all the airports continued. In such a situation, the question is what is the connection of Microsoft’s server with the airport’s check-in system? Which facilities at the airport were affected due to the problem in the server? Was there any effect on the landing and takeoff of the planes due to the technical problem in the server? Apart from this, did this technical fault have any effect on the planes traveling at an altitude of 45000 feet?
According to a senior official associated with airline operations, the check-in system of many airlines in India including Air India Express, Indigo, Spice Jet, Akasa is controlled through Microsoft’s software. Its job is to issue boarding passes based on the booking details of the passengers. Apart from this, the QR code in the boarding pass of the passengers boarding the plane is scanned through this system at the boarding gate. This system has nothing to do with the air navigation system.
He said that the systems used for air navigation and check-in are different. Hence, there is no problem in the take-off or landing of aircraft from the airport. At the same time, this technical problem has not affected the flights that have already taken off for their destination. The effect of the technical fault in the Microsoft server is limited only to the check-in system and aircraft boarding.
