It was completed and ready, but till date no one has been able to stay here. We are talking about North Korea’s pyramid-shaped skyscraper Hotel Ryugyong.

This mysterious Ryugyong Hotel is also known as Yu-Kyung. This hotel is located in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea and its height is 330 meters. It has a total of 105 rooms, but the surprising thing is that till date no one has been able to stay here. This hotel is also known as ‘Shapit Hotel’ or ‘Haunted Hotel’. It is also known as ‘Building 105’. Esquire magazine described it as the worst building in human history.

Haunted hotel built for 55 billion
The cost of building Ryugyong Hotel was approximately Rs 55 billion, which was two percent of North Korea’s GDP at that time. This hotel was considered to be the tallest hotel in the world, but its opening could not be done till date. Due to its dilapidated condition, it got a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. If this hotel had been completed on time, it would have been the seventh tallest building and the tallest hotel in the world.

Construction began in 1987
Construction of the hotel started in 1987. It was expected to be completed in two years. The construction work was stopped several times due to shortage of construction materials and technical difficulties related to construction. Then in 1992, due to the poor economic condition of North Korea, construction work stopped completely. However, construction was resumed in 2008. About 11 billion rupees were spent in the arrangement of this grand building. After this, glass panels were installed in the building and other minor works were completed, but still the hotel could not be fully operational. In 2012, the North Korean government claimed to soon complete the construction of the Ryugyong Hotel. However, despite repeated changes in dates, the hotel remains incomplete till date.
