Varun Dhawan’s action thriller film ‘Baby John’ has been released in theaters today on the occasion of Christmas. Directed by Kallis, this film has been produced by Atlee. Keerthy Suresh, Vamika Gabbi, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav have important roles in the film along with Varun Dhawan. Dainik Bhaskar has given this 2 hours 24 minutes length film a 3 out of 5 star rating.
What is the story of the film?
The story of the film is based on the fabric of action, emotion and social message. Varun Dhawan plays the character of Baby John, who faces every difficulty for his daughter Khushi. The story touches on issues such as women’s safety and child trafficking. It is shown in the film that John aka DCP Satya Verma (Varun Dhawan) is living a happy life with his daughter Khushi in Kerala while hiding his past.
John runs a bakery and his daughter calls him Khushi Baby, but in the meantime, John’s past life once again begins to dominate his present, when innocent girls are rescued from the clutches of dangerous villain Nana ji’s (Jackie Shroff) henchmen. Succeeds in saving. The story of the film revolves around how John manages to save himself and his daughter from Nana’s dangerous plans.
How is the acting of the star cast?
Varun Dhawan has shown a new style in his career. His emotional and action packed performance is excellent. Keerthy Suresh and Vamika Gabbi have shown depth in their characters. Kirti’s grace and Vamika’s honesty make the film strong. Jackie Shroff’s acting and looks in the film are strong, but his character seems half-baked.
It seems that his character could have been presented better. Rajpal Yadav’s light comedy style leaves an impact in some scenes. Varun Dhawan and Zara Gianna’s chemistry is the most emotional aspect of the film. Zara has played the role of Varun Dhawan’s daughter in this film.
How is the direction?
Kalis’s direction is effective, but there are several shortcomings in the screenplay and storyline. However, in the film he has tried to raise social issues. The relationship between father and daughter has been presented in an emotional manner, but the foundation of the story is weak. The writers have created a complex and outdated story by assuming the audience is overly intelligent. Many parts are predictable and lack emotional connect. By the end the film seems to be dragging on. There is a lack of research in the kind of subject of the film. The film has plenty of action, but does not show coordination between comedy and emotion scenes.
The punch lines that attract the audience seem to be lacking in the film. Not much attention has been paid to the dialogues of the film. The main villain was not fully utilized. At the same time, Salman Khan’s cameo seems unnecessary. This film is a remake of Tamil ‘Theri’, but some scenes have been changed after the interval. Especially in the character of Vamika Gabbi.
How is the music of the film?
Talking about the songs of the film, apart from ‘Nain Matakka’ there is no such song which is memorable. Thaman’s background score is powerful and adds to the atmosphere of the film.
Final verdict of the film, watch it or not
Varun Dhawan’s new style, perfect coordination of action and emotion has been seen in this film. This film tries to touch social issues. The film, released on the occasion of Christmas, can be watched once, but due to the weak story and long screenplay, it does not seem very effective.
