New Delhi. Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy has been made the coach of the West Indies team in all formats. Sammy, who made West Indies the T20 World Cup champion twice under his captaincy, has played 232 international matches for West Indies. He will take charge of the Test team as coach from April 1, 2025. Cricket West Indies announced this on Monday. Sammy was currently coaching the ODI and T20 teams. Now the board has given him the responsibility of coach in all three formats. 40 year old Sammy was made the coach of the white ball cricket team in 2023. Sammy was then made the coach of the ODI and T20 team in place of Andre Cole. Before this, Sammy was the interim coach of the West Indies team in red ball cricket.
Darren Sammy coached for the first time as a coach in ODI against UAE in June. Former West Indies wicketkeeper Cooley coached for the last time in the home series against India in July last year. Under Sammy’s guidance, the Windies won the ODI series against UAE in white ball cricket and also won against Bangladesh and England. However, despite this, the Windies team could not make it to the final of the World Cup Qualifier.
