Iyer-Rahane-Prithvi Shaw’s team lost cheaply, Ranji champion Mumbai lost the first match, Pandya’s team won.


New Delhi. Mumbai, which came to defend the title in Ranji Trophy 2024-25, has already faced defeat in the first match. Krunal Pandya’s team had to face defeat by 84 runs against Baroda. Baroda had given Mumbai a target of 262 runs to win. In response, the Mumbai team, playing under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, was all out after scoring 177 runs.

The current season of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has started from October 11. 16 matches were played in the first round. Mumbai’s first match was against Baroda. This match was played in Vadodara. Batting first in the match, Baroda scored 290 runs. In response, Mumbai team could score only 214 runs.

Tanush Kotian took 9 wickets
Baroda’s team, which took a lead of 76 runs in the first innings, was reduced to 185 runs in its second innings. Mumbai’s Tanush Kotian played an important role in defeating Baroda cheaply in the second innings by taking 5 wickets. Off-spinner Tanush Kotian also took 4 wickets in the first innings.

Siddharth’s fifty did not work
In this way Mumbai got the target of 262 runs to win. This target was not at all easy on a deteriorating pitch. But a team which had cricketers like Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, was not expected to surrender like Mumbai did. Shreyas Iyer was out after scoring 30 runs and Rahane and Prithvi Shot after scoring 12-12 runs. Siddharth Lad (59), who lost 8 wickets for 137 runs, definitely took Mumbai to 177 runs. But his innings could not avert the team’s defeat.

There were 4 test cricketers in Mumbai team
Let us tell you that there were four Test cricketers in the Mumbai team, whereas there was no one in the Baroda team. Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur also played in this match for Mumbai. Baroda had only one cricketer (Krunal Pandya) with international experience. Krunal Pandya played an important inning of 55 runs in the second innings.
