Israel has admitted for the first time that it had murdered former Hamas chief Haniyeh. Israeli Defense Minister Katz confirmed this during a statement on Monday. Till now no Israeli official or leader had accepted this.
In a statement regarding the attacks by Houthi rebels, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that just as we have killed Haniyeh and Sinwar, we will kill the Houthis too.
Former Hamas chief Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran’s capital Tehran on July 31 this year. He had reached Tehran to attend the swearing-in of Iranian President Masoud Pazhakian.
Iran had said that Haniyeh was killed in a missile attack. However, many media reports claimed that Haniyeh was killed in a bomb blast. Haniyeh’s funeral took place on August 2 in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Haniyeh was the political chief of Hamas. He became the chief political leader of Hamas from 2017.
Claim- Planning to kill was done 2 months ago
The New York Times had claimed in its report that Israel had planned to kill Haniyeh about two months before his death. American media house New York Times had given this information quoting 7 Middle East officials including 2 Iranians.
According to reports, Haniyeh died in a bomb blast. The bomb that killed him was hidden two months ago and planted in the Tehran guest house where Haniyeh was staying. As soon as Haniyeh’s arrival there was confirmed, an explosion was detonated via remote from some outside area.
Haniyeh was seen meeting Iranian officials during the swearing-in.
Houthi rebels threatened with dire consequences
Defense Minister Katz threatened the Houthi rebels with dire consequences for attacking Israel. Katz said that we have defeated Hamas, we have defeated Hezbollah, in the same way we will defeat the Houthi rebels also.
Katz also threatened to destroy the Houthis’ infrastructure and behead their leaders. Houthi rebels have been carrying out rocket and missile attacks on Israel for the last one year. Apart from this, cargo ships belonging to Israel are also being targeted in the Red Sea.
