The cheap AI model of Chinese Startup Deepsek has given sleep to the tech world. India is also trying to participate in the fast race of AI model. For this, the government has made several big announcements one after the other. IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said on 4 February that India will start creating graphic processing units (GPU) in the next 5-10 years and this year the country’s own foundational AI platform will be ready. Foundational AI model
A few days after Deepsek’s AI model arrives, Vaishnav said that the government will form a large language model (LLM) under the India AI mission. For this, the government is in touch with at least 6 developers. He also said that the government has chosen 18 AI-based apps, which will be funded under this mission.
The process of purchasing GPU continues
The Union Minister said that the government is working on providing 18,000 high-end GPU compute facility for AI development in the next few days. Of these, 10,000 GPUs have become available. The government has also elected 10 companies which will supply 18,693 GPUS. This includes yotta, Jio platforms, Tata Communication and CMS Computers etc.
Common GPU Facility
The government will launch a common compute facility in the next few days, which will be able to access startups and researchers. Here the charge of accessing high-end GPU will be Rs 150 per hour. To simplify this access, the government will also give 40 percent subsidy to users at a total price.
Center of Excellence for AI Education
Finance Minister Sitharaman had announced in the budget that Sarkar will prepare the Center of Excellence for AI Education. A budget of Rs 500 crore has been set for this.
