When England hosted the first Women’s Cricket World Cup (ODI) in 1973, 7 teams participated in it. Among these seven teams, there were only 3 who had the status of playing Test cricket. These teams were from England, Australia and New Zealand. Of the remaining four teams out of seven, one was the second team from England, which came under the name ‘Young England’. Apart from this, another team was International XI, which included players from many countries. The remaining two Caribbean teams were Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. There was not a single Asian team in the Women’s World Cup 1973.

India did not send the team
India’s official entry into the cricket world was in 1932 itself. India’s men’s team had been playing Test cricket since 1932. But no one was paying attention to women’s cricket in the country.
