Agency, Adelaide (IND vs AUS Adelaide Test). Adelaide Oval’s pitch curator Damien Hugh has made revelations about the condition of the pitch for the second Test match of the ongoing series against India. He estimated that the surface would be covered with 6 mm of grass.
During the pre-match press conference, he further said that the pitch condition will be favorable for fast bowlers. He also said that he and his team have tried to create a balanced pitch where batsmen, fast bowlers and spinners can all play a big role in the Test match.
88 percent chance of rain on the first day
- The pitch curator also revealed that the pitch could also be favorable for fast bowlers due to cloudy weather. There is an 88% chance of rain on the first day of the second Test match to be held in Adelaide from Friday.
- Hugh predicted that in five days the ball could both swing and seam and this would be due not to the pitch, but to the weather conditions. History shows that it is difficult to bat under lights in Adelaide.
- There will be 6 mm grass on the pitch. We are trying to make a pitch where we can see a good competition. Last time, in the India-Australia match here, the Test was over in just three days.
- On this Hugh said, the pitch played no role in this. It was really good bowling from Australia. As long as there’s something in it for all aspects of the game I’m happy, I just want a good competition.
Last time Team India was out for 36 runs
Damien Hugh said, the rotation of the ball has nothing to do with the pitch. In the right circumstances, in the right weather, the ball will roll. The last time the Men in Blue played at this venue, they were all out for just 36 runs and thus recorded their lowest ever total in Tests.
However, this time Team India has reached Adelaide with full confidence. The Jasprit Bumrah-led side won the first match of the series by 295 runs, which was also their biggest win Down Under in terms of runs. They will be aiming to repeat their impressive performance from the first match as they hope to qualify for the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive time.
