IMD Weather Update: Flood threat in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bengal and Himachal also at risk


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Andhra Pradesh, warning of significant weather disruptions over the next few days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to suffer the most damage, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected from September 8 to 9 as the cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal intensifies into a depression.

Yellow alert issued

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for east Rajasthan, warning of continued rainfall activity over the region, especially over Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions, from September 8 to 9.

Likely to intensify into a depression

The IMD also said that a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwards and intensify into a depression, affecting areas like West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coast.

Heavy rain predicted in South Bengal

Heavy rainfall is expected in South Bengal from September 9, with East and West Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, and Jhargram districts likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Fishermen advised to avoid going into the sea

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea from September 8 to 10 along and off West Bengal-Odisha coast due to rough weather and strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph.

Roads closed in many districts due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have led to road closures in several districts and the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. The local weather office has also warned of a low risk of flash floods in some areas.
