Indore (Madhya Pradesh). Former national selector Sanjay Jagdale said that fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who returned to competitive cricket after almost a year through Ranji Trophy matches, will have to show strength in first-class matches to regain fitness and form. Shami, who was away from competitive cricket since the final of the World Cup 2023 on November 19 last year, had an ankle injury for which he had to undergo surgery. He made a comeback to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy match between Madhya Pradesh and Bengal at the Holkar Stadium in Indore starting on Wednesday.
Jagdale told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ during this match at the stadium, “Shami has been an amazing bowler. India has definitely missed his bowling in the last one year.” To achieve this, he will still have to play first-class matches.
When asked whether the Indian team will miss Shami in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy competition, Jagdale said, “No bowler with the qualities of experienced Shami can come to the fore right away, but his absence in this match will be a big deal for any young bowler.” This may also prove to be an opportunity, taking advantage of which he can establish himself in the Indian team.” Meanwhile, many young fans of Shami reached Holkar Stadium to witness the return of their favorite bowler to the field. One such fan, Rehan Patel, said, “India is in great need of a good fast bowler.” We are hoping that Shami will make his way back into the Indian team by performing well in the Ranji Trophy match.
