Water politics continues in Delhi: Delhi’s Water Crisis, Many areas of Delhi are facing a water crisis. It has been a month since the war of words and blame game politics have been going on between the BJP and AAP regarding this issue.
Kejriwal Atishi, the water minister in the government, started protesting on the issue of water, and today is the second day of her indefinite protest. Atishi has named her protest ‘Water Satyagraha’. Now, the Aam Aadmi Party alleges that Haryana is not giving Delhi its full share of water. Meanwhile, Haryana claims it is providing 17 percent more water than the stipulated amount.
The Aam Aadmi Party government is under scrutiny due to these allegations. For many years, whenever assembly elections are held, all the big leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, including ministers and the Chief Minister, have been winning elections by making promises and claims about water. However, the people of Delhi are still yearning for water, with many areas continuously facing shortages.
Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi first went to Rajghat with Sunita Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh, and Saurabh Bhardwaj to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. She then sat on an indefinite hunger strike in the Bhogal area of Delhi. Atishi said, “From today, I will not eat any food, will only drink water, and until the people of Delhi get the water they need, until the thirst of these 28 lakh people of Delhi is not quenched, until the people of Delhi get justice, this indefinite fast will continue. If the people of Delhi do not get water, this Water Satyagraha will continue.”

At the stage of Satyagraha for water, CM Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, and some other leaders were seen. A photo of Mahatma Gandhi was also placed on the poster, which read ‘Water Satyagraha for an indefinite period’. Sunita Kejriwal said, “To appeal to the Haryana government with full respect, our cabinet colleague Atishi ji is doing Satyagraha. She should fast for an indefinite period. During this time, she will not eat anything, only drink water. This is a very harsh penance. She is doing this for Delhi.”
The Delhi government is accusing Haryana of giving less water, whereas the Haryana government says that it is providing more water than the limit. For the past two weeks, Haryana has not been giving full water to Delhi; instead of 613 MGD, they are giving 500-513 MGD of water, which is 100 million gallons less per day.
On the other hand, Haryana’s Agriculture Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar said, “Under the agreement with Haryana, we have to give 7.61 cusecs of water. We are supposed to give them this amount, but we are providing 10.49 cusecs of water, which is 30% more than required.”
