Ashok Kumar was born on 13 October 1911 in Bihar but he belonged to a Bengali family. Ashok Kumar’s real name was Kumudlal Ganguly and he started his career with the film Jeevan Naiya (1936). The 1943 film Kismat was directed by Gyan Mukherjee and produced by S Mukherjee.
The film Kismat is said to be the first film in Indian cinema that did a business of Rs 1 crore. Ashok Kumar was the lead actor in this film and his was the first film to earn Rs 1 crore.
