Shami had completely recovered from the ankle injury. Shami bowled 43 overs for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. Additionally, he played all 9 matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he indulged in extra bowling sessions to be fit for the Test matches.
