Bank Holiday: Will banks remain open on Guru Nanak Jayanti on 15th November?


Guru Nanak Jayanti or the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji will be celebrated on 15 November 2024, Friday. According to the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed in many states on this occasion.

Banks on this day in states like Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chandigarh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Nagaland, New Delhi, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh Will remain closed.

However, customers can transact through online services like UPI, net banking and mobile banking. ATM services will also be available normally and there will be no interruption.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, after Guru Nanak Jayanti, there will also be a holiday on 18th November 2024 on the occasion of Kanakdas Jayanti. Note that November 17, 2024 is Sunday, on which there will be a holiday in all banks.

These holidays are determined by the Reserve Bank of India, which apply to both public and private banks. These include national holidays, state-specific festivals, and weekend holidays such as second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday.

Is there a bank holiday on 16th November?

Since November 16 is the third Saturday, banks will remain open and function normally. In 2024, the central government has scheduled three national holidays: Republic Day on January 26, Independence Day on August 15, and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Apart from this, the Reserve Bank of India has also prescribed some other holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holiday and bank account closing.

Banks in India are closed every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Bank branches remain closed on these days, but digital banking services like mobile apps, UPI, IMPS and net banking remain normally available, allowing customers to transact without interruption.
