A report by ServiceNow has estimated a tremendous increase in the number of jobs in India by 2028. The report says that in the next five years, millions of new jobs will be created due to technology and AI.
According to the report, the number of employed people in India will increase to about 45.72 crore by 2028. Whereas in 2023, 42.37 crore people were doing jobs. That means, about 3.38 crore new jobs will be added in the next 5 years. The main reason for this is India’s rapidly growing economy and increasing use of technology. According to the report, maximum 27.3 lakh new jobs will be created in the technology sector. After this, about 15 lakh new jobs will be created in the manufacturing sector, 84 thousand in education and 80 thousand in health services.
It is clear from these figures that the demand for jobs in India will increase significantly due to technological development and economic growth, but to achieve these, it will be necessary for the candidates to upgrade their skills accordingly. In fact, according to ServiceNow India, AI will play a big role in generating employment in India. But this will mostly increase the number of roles with excellent technical skills. However, along with increasing new jobs, it will also increase the possibility of a permanent and wonderful career.

The report also states that the use of generative AI will bring changes in jobs because AI systems engineers will benefit greatly from generative AI and almost half of their work will be handled by AI technology. For example, implementation consultants can save approximately 1.9 hours per week and focus their energy on strategic projects. Platform owners can also increase the speed and quality of work by saving about half an hour of time every week. According to the report, it has become necessary to upgrade skills in sectors like software application development and data engineering. This can prove to be a great opportunity for retail and service sector professionals to survive in this tech-driven world. The report also says that if India makes its skilled labor force proficient in these areas, then India can become a leader in the global technology economy. For this, India will have to invest rapidly in training and infrastructure in these skills so that we can become stronger in the future.
