Washington: Astronomers have recently made a discovery which is nothing short of a big threat to the Earth. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), scientists have discovered an Esteroid which is at risk of hitting the earth. The name of this Esteroid is 2024 YRR4. On 22 December 2032, it has 2.2 percent likely to hit our planet. After the new assessment, its risk has increased by 1.2 percent. Astronomers fear that as the observation shared, the percentage of danger may also increase. According to the agency, if it follows the pattern of other Near Earth Object, then the possibility of effect will increase and then gradually it will decrease.
For example, when Esteroid Epoffis was discovered in 2004, it was most likely to hit the earth. But in 2021, scientists revised their opinion after accurate analysis of the class. The more astronomers can inspect 2024 YR4, they will continue to update information about its size and tragetize. According to a post shared by the agency, ‘The more we observe, the more we can understand the trageter of Esteroid. From this we will be able to understand how much the estoroid is likely to hit or get away.
What is the danger from Esteroid?
The diameter of this estroid is equal to 40-90 meters. Dr. Paul Chodas, manager of the Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, says that the size of Esteroid is equal to a large building. If Esteroid is larger than its estimated size, then there may be terrible damage to 50 km from where it falls. In space, it is floating at a speed of 17 kilometers per second (38,028 km per hour). According to ESA, such a large meteorite has been falling on the earth in a few thousand years.
Esteroid causes havoc
In the year 1908, 30 meters wide Esteroid fell in the Tunguska River area of Siberia, causing the forest of 2,150 square kilometers. In 2013, a 20 -meter wide Esteroid was exploded in the atmosphere in Chelyabinsk, Russia. More than 1,000 people were injured and 7,000 buildings were destroyed. Many types of systems have been prepared to deal with the dangers of estoroids. The Esteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) caught 2024 YR4 from the telescope in Chile on 27 December. When the automatic system found it as a danger, he immediately sent an alert.
