Last year, the Hema Committee report came, in which many women associated with Malayali cinema complained of sexual abuse. After the committee’s report came to light, the Kerala High Court had ordered that there should be a complaint against the accused on the basis of the statements made in the Hema Committee. Some time ago, Malayali Director Sajimon Paril, along with two actors, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this decision of the Kerala High Court, although his plea has been dismissed.
The Supreme Court said that they would not interfere in the decision of the Kerala High Court. A bench of Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Mehta said that if a cognizable offense is reported, it is necessary to take action on the police officer as per the law. The bench also said that they will not give any instructions to stop the police investigation by going against the Kerala High Court.
Producer Sajimon Paril filed a petition against the Kerala High Court’s decision on 14 October 2024, in which he protested against filing a complaint against someone based on the statement of the victims given before the Hema Committee. While the Kerala High Court has ordered that if a woman complains of sexual abuse before the Hema Committee, a complaint will be filed against the accused on Section 173 of Indian Civil Defense and will investigate the SIT (Special Investigation Team).
Let us tell you that Director Sajimon Paril had earlier also filed a petition against the State Information Commission’s decision, stating that the report of the Hema Committee should be disclosed.
