Mobile Phone Tariff declined More than 90 Percent in Last Decade, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel


In India, the tariff of mobile phones has been reduced by about 94 percent in the last decade. The number of mobile phone users in the country has increased to about 116 crores. In the last decade, the number of Internet subscribers has increased from around 25 crores to more than 97 crores.

Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told in Parliament that a minute call on mobile phones was about 50 paise a decade ago and it has come down to three paise. This is about 94 percent decrease in mobile phone tariffs. He said that a decade ago a decade ago, a GB cost of broadband internet was about 270 rupees. This cost has come down to about Rs 9.70 per GB. The tariff of the Internet has decreased by about 93 percent. India is the most affordable country in terms of internet cost in the world.

Scindia said that the tariff of mobile phone has recently increased by 10 percent. The reason for this is the investment in launching the 5G network faster. He said that 98 percent districts of the country and about 82 percent of the population have been included in the scope of 5G network. Scindia said that telecom companies have enacted about Rs 4.5 lakh crore for this network. Describing the increase in tariffs as correct, he said that returns should be received on investment. Scindia said that India is the cheapest voice and data tariff in India.

Recently, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had made it mandatory for telecom companies to bring separate tariff plans of calls and SMS for telecom companies. These prepaid tariff plans are for customers who do not need data. After this, big telecom companies Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have launched prepaid plans for calls and SMS only. These prepaid tariff plans would be better for customers who do not need data. After this, Reliance Jio has introduced tariff plans of Rs 1,748 and Rs 448. Bharti Airtel has launched a new plan of Rs 499. It will have unlimited calls and 84 days validity with 900 SMS. Apart from this, the company has also provided a plan of Rs 1,959.
