Whatsapp will no longer supported from 1st January 2025 to these Android and ios devices

Support of popular messaging app WhatsApp is going to stop for many smartphones from January 1, 2025. WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has said that from the new year, WhatsApp will not work on those Android devices which run on KitKat OS or older versions. WhatsApp takes such steps every year so that the security and functionality of the app continues to work better with new technologies. It is worth noting here that Android KitKat was launched in the year 2013. This means that WhatsApp support is going to stop in very old smartphones. In common devices it will continue to work as before.

The company says that older Android versions often do not have the capabilities needed to support new app updates. This creates security risks and also impacts efficiency. After this decision, WhatsApp support will affect the models of many brands. Especially smartphones of Samsung, LG, Sony etc. LG is already out of the smartphone business.

Whatsapp will not work in these phones

Samsung : Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Ace 3
LG : LG Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
HTC : One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
Sony : Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V

This step of WhatsApp is going to affect Apple users also. The company has said that it will not support iPhones running on iOS versions earlier than 15.1 from May 5, 2025. The company is giving 5 months time to its users so that they can switch to the updated iOS versions. This will affect those users who are using iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. iPhone users whose devices are still running on the old software will have to upgrade to the new version.
