Melbourne. Indian cricket team’s experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has given sleepless nights to the Australian bowlers. So far, this singing bowler has taken 21 wickets in 3 matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. Former cricketer Simon Katich has advised Australian batsmen to focus on rotating the strike and strong defense to be successful against India’s legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Katich said that Bumrah rarely bowls loose balls so Australian cricketers need to be strategically good in their approach. “I know it’s all about more positive intentions and I think that’s all right and it’s definitely something that they should keep in mind,” Katich told SEN 1116. But against a player like Bumrah, the intention is not just about hitting him for fours because he does not bowl very bad balls. So a big part of that intention should be to be able to rotate the strike and have very good defence. If you are not there after the tenth over, you will not be able to play with any intention. This is a challenge for all these players.
To clarify his point, Katich gave the example of Australia’s second innings in the third Test in Brisbane where the host team tried to adopt an aggressive approach but ultimately lost their wickets. He said, “We saw it in the second innings in Brisbane. The Australian players came out with very positive intentions and tried to score runs more quickly and look what happened, they lost seven wickets for 80 runs in no time. Cracks had started appearing on the wicket of Gaba and it is not easy to do this against the red ball which is falling on the seam and rotating. The top order will have to be very careful how to carry the innings because he is very good.
