New Delhi. Host Australia can go to any extent to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia has adopted controversial methods at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Indian fast bowler Akash Deep’s sharp words have highlighted this issue, raising questions over the choice of pitches given to both the teams for the practice session.
A conspiracy is being hatched to injure the players of the Indian team by giving them bad pitches. For those who are unaware of this matter, let us tell you that the Indian team had practiced at MCG on Saturday (19 December) and Sunday (20 December). There was a fear of Indian captain Rohit Sharma getting injured due to the ball hitting his knee, after which he needed immediate treatment from the physio. Before this, KL Rahul and fast bowler Akash Deep have also been injured.
While talking to the media, Akash raised questions on the pitches and claimed that these pitches were made for white ball cricket. “I think these wickets are for white ball cricket. The bounce was low and it was becoming difficult for the batsmen to leave the balls,”
Australia got a separate pitch
According to the report of Times now, a difference can be seen in the pitch that India got and the pitch given to Australia for practice. The picture of the pitch given to both the teams has also been shared. On Monday (22 December), when the Indian team was on break, the Australian team gathered in Melbourne and had its first net session. The pitches given to the home team were completely different. The Pat Cummins-led team practiced on fresh pitches which had more pace and bounce.
Times Now has shared the picture of the practice pitch received by India and Australia.
MCG pitch curator Matt Paggs defended the decision and claimed that fresh pitches are only given to a team three days before the start of a Test match. “We had already received the schedule of the Indian team. We usually give match-focused pitches three days before the match. This applies to all teams,”
