New Delhi. After half-centuries of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, India postponed the follow-on due to the excellent batting of Jasprit Bumrah and Akashdeep. India tried to counterattack on the fourth day of the third Test match against Australia, in which India was largely successful. At the end of the fourth day’s play, India has scored 252 runs for 9 wickets in the first innings on the fourth day of the Gabba Test. The Indian team is still 193 runs behind the 445 runs scored by the hosts in the first innings. On the fourth day, the last pair of Bumrah and Akashdeep added 39 valuable runs for India and saved the team from the embarrassment of follow-on. Akashdeep is unbeaten after scoring 27 runs while Bumrah returned unbeaten after scoring 10 runs. Bumrah and Akashdeep have hit a six each. At one time India was in danger of follow-on in this match but the last pair of Team India did wonders.
Indian batsmen were unable to face the Australian fast bowling attack in difficult conditions. The game was stopped several times and then started again due to continuous interruption of rain. Jasprit Bumrah took 6 wickets for 76 runs but Australia was successful in reaching a big score of 445 runs in the first innings. Australia, playing ahead of 405 runs for 7 wickets, added 40 more runs and lost its remaining 3 wickets. Alex Carey played an inning of 70 runs in 88 balls. He was the last batsman to be out, whereas yesterday Travis Head and Steve Smith laid the foundation of Australia’s big score by scoring centuries in opposite styles.
At the time of stumps, Indian opener Lokesh Rahul is playing with 33 runs while at the other end, he is being supported by captain Rohit Sharma who has not opened his account yet. India is still behind Australia by 394 runs with only 6 wickets remaining and the biggest challenge before the visiting team is to save the follow-on.
