The convoy of protesters protesting for the release of Imran Khan in Pakistan is moving towards the capital Islamabad. The demonstration started on Sunday 24 November on the call of Imran Khan. Imran has named this protest ‘Final Call’. To stop the demonstration, the police have arrested more than 4 thousand Imran supporters. These also include 5 MPs.

Meanwhile, the ongoing protest in Pakistan is getting support from all over the world. PTI supporters in more than 60 cities of the world are demanding the release of Imran Khan. PTI has shared pictures of the demonstration from many cities of Canada, America and Britain on its social media platform.

In view of the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Pakistan today, the Shahbaz Sharif government has already made tight security arrangements. The main roads leading to the capital Islamabad were closed using containers on 23 November itself. Thousands of police personnel have also been deployed. Mobile and internet services have been suspended in many areas.

Three demands of the protesters Imran’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and supporters are protesting with three demands. The first demand is that Imran Khan and PTI workers should be released soon. Apart from this, accepting the results of the elections held in 2024 and withdrawing the 26th Constitutional Amendment Act which reduces the power of the courts passed in the Pakistani Parliament.

Imran Khan himself had called for this protest. He had asked PTI workers to join the protest on November 24 or leave the party. Imran has named this demonstration as final call.

More than 100 cases against Khan

More than 100 cases are pending against Imran Khan. The local court of Islamabad had convicted him in the Toshakhana case on August 5, 2023. After this, he was arrested from his house in Zaman Park, Islamabad and sent to jail. He was later convicted in 2 more cases. According to the English newspaper Dawn, if Imran comes out of jail, he will raise the demand for re-election in Pakistan.

Imran’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party could not officially participate in the general elections held this year. In a post on Imran Khan’s X (Twitter) account on July 5, the general elections held on February 8 this year were described as fake. In such a situation, neither the Shahbaz government nor the army would want Khan to be released at any cost.

Won maximum seats despite being in jail

General elections were held in Pakistan on 8 February. Before this, Khan was convicted in 3 consecutive cases one after the other. Due to this he was not able to participate in the elections. His party symbol was snatched away before the elections. All the party leaders had contested the elections as independents. Despite this, supporters of Khan’s party PTI got 93 out of 342 seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan. However, Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan Peoples Party together formed the government. Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister.
