Another war cry! These countries clashed, one attacked with drone and the other blew up the road

Seoul: At present there are wars going on in two places in the world. An Israel-Iran war is taking place in which everyone from Hezbollah to Hamas is involved. The second war is taking place between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, another old enemy country has clashed with each other. This is North Korea and South Korea. In a measure of anger, North Korea on Tuesday destroyed the northern part of the road which is no longer in use and which once connected it with South Korea.

It has taken this step after the claim that South Korea had flown drones over its capital Pyongyang, after which the tension between the two rival countries has further increased. The demolition of roads reflects North Korea’s growing anger against South Korea’s conservative government. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for ending relations with South Korea.

Why increased tension?
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the South Korean military also opened fire on the southern border in response to the destruction of roads through explosions. He did not give detailed information on the firing in the statement. It is not yet known whether North Korea has retaliated against this firing. The South Korean military said it is increasing its preparedness and surveillance with the US.

A video provided by the South Korean military showed smoke billowing from the explosion on a road near the western border city of Kaesong and North Korean trucks and machines moving to clear debris. Another video shows smoke rising from a coastal road near Korea’s eastern border.

This has been the history of North Korea
North Korea has a history of demolishing buildings on its soil as a political message. In 2020 also, it blew up a liaison office building built by South Korea which was lying vacant. North Korea has accused South Korea of sending drones to drop propaganda leaflets on Pyongyang three times this month and has threatened to respond with force if it sends drones again.

South Korea refused to confirm the dispatch of the drone but warned that North Korea would face consequences if the safety of its citizens was endangered. Kim Jong Un’s sister Kim Yo Jong said on Tuesday that North Korea has found specific and clear evidence that South Korean “army goons” are behind the alleged drone dispatch.

Both countries came closer in the year 2000
During the thaw in inter-Korea relations in 2000, the two countries reconnected their heavily fortified border with two roads and two rail tracks. But their operations were later suspended due to North Korea’s nuclear program and other issues.

Last week, North Korea said it would permanently block its border with South Korea and develop front-line defense capabilities to deal with “provocative actions” by South Korean and US forces. (with language input)
