According to Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the company is trying to launch 5G network by June 2025. Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum ITUWTSA, he emphasized that India is following the world in 4G, leading the way with global growth in 5G and poised to lead the world in 6G technology. The Union Minister further emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given clear instructions that the government-owned company will not use equipment from any other source. He said, “Now we have a primary and a radio access network, which is fully functional. We plan to create one lakh sites by April-May next year. We have started 38,300 sites till yesterday.” He also said that “We are going to launch our own 4G network, which will transition to 5G by June 2025. We will be the sixth country in the world to do so.” Government-owned BSNL is implementing 4G technology developed by C-DOT and Indian IT company TCS.

The Union Minister said that India has implemented 5G technology very rapidly with the installation of 4.5 lakh towers in 22 months, thereby providing service to 80 percent of the country’s population. BSNL has planned to install 1 lakh new towers for 4G/5G service, the target is to install 75 thousand towers by the end of this year.
